VA Releases Rankings of Best, Worst Nursing Home Facilities

Nearly half of VA nursing homes nationwide – 60 – received the agency's lowest ranking of one out of five stars as of Dec. 31, 2017, according to documents obtained by USA TODAY and The Boston Globe. Of note, VA nursing homes often serve residents with more numerous and challenging medical conditions than do private sector facilities. Of the 133 nursing homes ranked, 34 earned an overall 5-star ranking. 73 nursing care facilities experienced no relevant change in quality. One nursing home dropped from a 5 to a 4-star ranking but still retains a reputation for quality VA care.

Veteran and family satisfaction is critically important to us as we make every effort to put our veterans first - our veterans and their families are depending on us,” said Vince Kane, director of the Wilmington VA Medical Center.
